Fifteen years,
one bus stop.
If you know Mauricia and Brian, you’ve probably heard some version of this. There’s a twisted ankle in it, and a bus stop, and a BlackBerry PIN. Here’s the whole thing, more or less the way Mauricia tells it.
2011 · Washington, D.C.
The bus stop
The year of the Omega Psi Phi Centennial. A group of them went to one of the convention parties, and while they were strolling, Mauricia’s linesister enthusiastically set it owt — and promptly twisted her ankle. So instead of heading home, they played the let out, then waited with her at the now-infamous bus stop for another soror to come get them.
While they waited, some friendly Bruhs walked over to chat. One of them happened to be a guy named BHaley. A casual conversation turned into an exchange of BlackBerry PINs. Yes, they’re dating themselves.
“Brian loves to tell everyone that he ‘saved’ me and changed the trajectory of my life by picking me up at a bus stop. I like to remind him that the real MVP is my linesister, who twisted her ankle that night!”Mauricia

Running into each other
They kept running into each other at Greek events around the city. Eventually it got official-ish: drinks at Stan’s, then a late walk through downtown. They must have liked each other, because the walks turned into a habit, and the habit turned into exploring D.C. together.
2014
Officially us
Brian might tell you otherwise, but it took a while for the dawg to settle down. Mauricia says she was patient. She also says she was persistent. Either way, by 2014 they were a couple, and they’ve been one ever since.
The years in between
Everything in between
They bought homes. They had two daughters, Monroe and Zoya, who are amazing. There was a family long before there was a wedding date, and most of the people reading this watched it happen.

Her fortieth birthday
Brian proposed on Mauricia’s 40th birthday. She said yes, or you wouldn’t be reading this.

The Haleys
Fifteen years after that bus stop, they’re saying “I do” in front of the people who were there for all of it. If you’re reading this, that means you. Thank you for coming.
