Every love story has a first stop. Theirs had a twisted ankle, a group of Bruhs, and a BlackBerry PIN. Here’s how Mauricia & Brian got from that curb to this September.
2011 · Washington, D.C.
The bus stop
The year of the Omega Psi Phi Centennial. A group of them went to one of the convention parties, and while they were strolling, Mauricia’s linesister enthusiastically set it owt — and promptly twisted her ankle. So instead of heading home, they played the let out, then waited with her at the now-infamous bus stop for another soror to come get them.
While they waited, some friendly Bruhs walked over to chat. One of them happened to be a guy named BHaley. A casual conversation turned into an exchange of BlackBerry PINs — yes, they’re dating themselves.

2011 — 2013
Crossing paths
They kept running into each other through Greek life and mutual events around the city. Eventually they made it official-ish: drinks at Stan’s, then a nighttime stroll through downtown. They must have liked each other, because the strolls turned into a habit of exploring D.C. together.
2014
Officially us
Brian might tell you otherwise, but it took a while for the dawg to settle down. In Mauricia’s words: thankfully, she was patient — and persistent. They became a couple in 2014 and never looked back.
The years in between
A whole life, built quietly
Homes bought. Two amazing daughters welcomed. Countless memories made with the people they love most. Long before there was a wedding date, there was a family — and most of you watched it happen firsthand.

A question, on her fortieth
Brian proposed on Mauricia’s 40th birthday, turning a day that was already unforgettable into something else entirely.
